So these are half a mistake. I set out with the intention of making red velvet cookies but soon realized I had far too much cocoa and not nearly enough red food coloring. But! I persevered and these delicious cookies are the result!

  • 1 1/2 c flour
  • 1/3 c unsweetened flour
  • 1 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 stick softened butter
  • 3/4 c white sugar
  • 1/3 c brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 c chocolate chips

Start by preheating an oven to 350 degrees. Grease 2 cookie sheets.

Now, in a small bowl, combine the flour, cocoa, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

In another, larger bowl, beat the sugars and bitter until light and fluffy. Stir in the vanilla. Then add the eggs, one at a time. Lastly, gradually add in the flour mixture, a little bit at a time. Stir in the chocolate chips.

Refrigerate the mixture for 15 minutes. Then, distribute evenly in rounded tablespoon sized lumps on the prepared sheets and bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges have crisped.
